Information event for refugees
On 15 April 2026 at 5 pm in room I4.413 we are once again offering an event for refugees interested in studying. We will provide information about the application and admission process for a DSH language course or a degree programme at Paderborn University. We will provide information on which documents are required and what options are available if the necessary documents are not available. We will also present funding opportunities and be available to answer questions.
The event will be held in German. Translations into English or Ukrainian are possible.
The event will take place in person, but it is possible to participate digitally. For digital participation only, pre-registration by e-mail is required at io-refugees(at)zv.upb.de is necessary. We will then send you the access link the day before the event.

Workshops 25/26 for students in the NRWege ins Studium programme
In the winter semester 2025/26, various workshops on different university-related topics will be offered as part of the "NRWege ins Studium" programme. All workshops take place in the I-Building in room I4.413. The workshops are aimed at NRWege programme participants.
Pre-registration with your university email address to io-refugees@zv.upb.de stating your first name, surname and matriculation number is mandatory. Data protection information
Only one participation in a workshop is possible per semester. All workshops will be held in German.
The following topics are available:
Time: From 02:00 p.m. to 04:30 p.m.
The workshop on "Right of Residence" will cover various aspects of residence law and securing residence in Germany. This includes the following topics:
- Presentation of the different residence titles of international students and refugee students
- Assessment of the respective prospects of staying with the individual residence titles
- Securing residence by changing from an insecure residence title (Ausbildungsduldung, Spurwechsel)
- Options for changing residence titles when the Ukraine Residence Permit Continued Validity Ordinance expires in 2027
- Residence permit for seeking and taking up employment in Germany
- Naturalisation
The speaker is the chairwoman of the Paderborn Refugee Council, lawyer Judith Herbe.
Time: From 09:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
The workshop “Presenting with Conviction” focuses on various aspects of preparing and delivering a successful presentation:
- Structure and dramaturgy of a persuasive presentation
- Visualisation: slide design, diagrams, storyline
- Voice, body language, and stage presence
- Coping with stage fright, Q&A, and challenging situations
- Short practical exercises with individual feedback
The speaker, Dr Dmytro Lyashov, holds a doctorate in economics and has several years of teaching experience at various universities in the fields of management, communication, and decision-making behaviour.
Time: From 01:00 p.m. to 03:30 p.m.
This workshop will address the following aspects:
- Common cognitive biases and their impact in study and everyday life
- Strategies for reflective decision-making
- Building trust and collaboration in diverse teams
- Interactive case studies and group work
- Reflection and transfer to participants’ own situations

Young people with a refugee background wanted!
Terre des Hommes is launching a new round of the Young Advocates programme and is looking for committed young people with a history of flight aged 18-27 who want to speak for and with Terre des Hommes at nationwide events and make their experiences visible. The free training weekend will take place on 24 and 25 January 2026 in Berlin. The application deadline is 14 November.
Please send your application (a short motivation letter including your name, age, place of residence, contact details, previous engagement, the topic you would like to speak about, and a brief explanation) to region-europa@tdh.de.
