Information for holders of a university professorship (W2/W3)

On this page, holders of a university professorship (W2/W3) will find information on the further procedure after the appointment at Paderborn University.

After the appointment has been granted

After the appointment has been granted, please declare to the President of Paderborn University whether you are generally willing to accept the appointment.

The appointment hearing

Preparation in the faculty
The appointment negotiations are first initiated in the relevant faculty. In a preparatory meeting, in particular the material and personnel resources as well as the existing and prospective work opportunities (e.g. rooms, facilities) are discussed.

In addition, the financial framework for funding or grants is discussed, including

  • scientific trips
  • excursions
  • Invitation of visiting professors
  • Lectures and colloquia
  • Hiring additional staff
  • Procurement of special equipment and devices
  • Publications

Questions regarding the supply of literature are coordinated separately with the university library.
Please contact the dean of the faculty.

Appointment negotiations with the Presidential Board

The appointment negotiation with the Presidential Board takes place in a respectful atmosphere. In particular, the following will be discussed

  • the material and personnel resources of the professorship
  • the amount of the salary (salary/remuneration)
  • the time at which the professorship will be taken up

The salary negotiations are based on

  • a concept paper,
  • documents on previous salaries (e.g. payslips, employment contracts, previous appointment agreements),
  • as well as your personal salary expectations.

These documents must be submitted to the appointment management no later than 14 days before the negotiation date.

As a rule, the appointment hearing is attended by

  • the holder of the appointment,
  • the President,
  • the Vice-President for Finances and Human Resources,
  • the dean of the faculty,
  • Section 1 (Finance).

The salary negotiation takes place in a smaller group.
The appointment will be coordinated by the faculty and you will be informed.

The appointment offer

The results of the negotiations on equipment and salary will be sent to you in a separate letter as an offer of appointment.

After receiving the offers, you will be asked to make a decision in favour of or against accepting the appointment within a reasonable period of time (usually around four weeks).

After acceptance of the appointment

By signing the appointment agreement, you declare your legally binding acceptance of the appointment.
You must then wait for the deadline with regard to a possible competitor action.

Once this period has expired and all requirements have been met, the appointment is made:

  • In the case of a civil service appointment, by handing over the certificate of appointment,
  • in the case of employment under private law, by concluding the contract of employment.

The certificate of appointment can be handed over or the contract of employment signed at the earliest four weeks before the start of employment.

If you have any questions in connection with the preparation of the appeal hearing, please do not hesitate to contact the appeal management team.
